Do double standards still exist in some parts of the country today?

I ask this because there are many laws and views of society out there that seem double standard or sexist to both genders to many.(ie, child support, custody, definition of sexual harassment, wage difference with jobs, what a gender's job is is the marriage/household,expectations as a parent, career ideology, etc.)

Who is someone to say what someone's job or expectation is because of what gender they are?Why are the assumptions out there about gender's?Is it possible for both genders to be viewed equally?Or is the history of what our country was founded on with regards to the constitution and laws to blame for what happens in society today?

If women were not initially automatically the household runners and the man the breadwinner since as long before modern times, would both genders be treated fairly? If men were not used to having life this way, would they been seen as equal to women?Would the same assumptions be made about both genders if society never portrayed each gender differently? In reality would both genders really want to be treated equally and held up to the same physical/mental expectations as the other?

What do you think?
